Thanks to the pouring method, a thick, smooth layer is created, making the bathtub look like new. It forms a durable, impact-resistant coating.
The layer thickness is 0.5–0.7 mm at the edges of the bathtub and 4–5 mm at the bottom.

What are the differences between the various EKOPEL products?
All our materials are designed for resurfacing old bathtubs, offering excellent adhesion, odourless application, and high impact resistance. The variety of our products is based on different renovation requirements:
- EKOPEL 2K-CLASSIC is applied using a pouring technique and cures in 48 hours. It is the most cost-effective option.
- EKOPEL 2K-OPTIMUM is applied using a pouring technique, has a faster curing time of just 24 hours, allowing the bathtub to be used sooner.
- EKOPEL 2K-GOLD is applied using a pouring technique, also cures in 24 hours but provides additional UV protection. If your bathroom has a window, we recommend this material. Otherwise, CLASSIC or OPTIMUM are both suitable.
- EKOPEL ROLL-ON is applied with a roller, unlike the other three materials. It is ideal when the bathtub drain cannot be removed. It creates a smooth coating, but the roller texture may be slightly visible up close. Additionally, a second coat is required, which extends the application process.
Does the drain pipe need to be removed when renovating the bathtub?
We recommend removing the drain when using EKOPEL 2K CLASSIC, OPTIMUM, or GOLD. These materials are self-levelling and spread evenly across the bathtub. During application, approximately 200–300 g of excess material flows through the drain hole into a prepared container (e.g. a plastic cup or another vessel).
You can also use these materials without removing the drain, but this makes the process more complex and extends the renovation time. In this video, we demonstrate how it works.
If you're unsure whether you can apply the without-drain-removal method, we recommend using EKOPEL ROLL-ON, which is specifically designed for this situation.
At what room temperature can EKOPEL coatings be applied?
The optimal room temperature for application is 21–23°C.
Before starting the renovation, the bathroom should be heated to this temperature at least 24 hours in advance and maintained for 1–2 days after application to ensure even distribution and proper curing of the material.
Additionally, the materials should be stored in a warm, dry place for at least 2 days before application. This ensures the correct viscosity and optimal workability.
How do you maintain the bathtub after renovation?
Use mild, non-abrasive cleaning products suitable for bathtubs.
If the cleaning product is coloured, test it on a small, inconspicuous area before cleaning the entire bathtub.
After applying the cleaner, immediately lather it with a sponge and spread it evenly.
Do not dye hair in the bathtub, as the harsh chemicals in hair dye can damage the coating.
Avoid coloured bath additives such as bath bombs, as they may affect the surface.
